Psychotherapist Kitchener

Meaghan Snyder (she/her), RP(Q)

Providing in-person, online and phone sessions (Accepting new clients)

Approach: As a relational therapist who leads with curiosity and compassion, I often draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients explore their emotions, internal conflicts, and relationships. When helpful, I integrate practical tools from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I am also trained in Brainspotting, a trauma-focused modality that can help process experiences that feel stuck in the body and nervous system.

In my therapy practice, I work through a client-centered, strength-based, and trauma-informed lens. I deeply value client autonomy and collaborate with each person to shape therapy around their unique needs and values. I honor clients’ existing coping strategies as adaptive and resilient, while also supporting them in making the changes they want for their lives.

Areas of Focus:

I primarily work with adults in individual therapy and have experience supporting clients across the lifespan from diverse backgrounds, including neurodivergent, 2SLGBTQ+, and Indigenous communities.

My main areas of focus include:

  • Complex trauma and PTSD
  • Intimate partner violence (IPV)

  • Anxiety and depression

  • ADHD and autism (neurodivergent-affirming care)

  • Grief and loss

  • Stress and burnout

  • Life transitions and identity exploration

  • Assertiveness and boundary setting

  • Relational and attachment concerns

  • Emotion regulation

  • Self-esteem, self-worth, and self-compassion

My name is Meaghan, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). At the heart of my work is the belief that the most important part of therapy is creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and safe to be vulnerable. In practice, this means prioritizing collaboration – you guide the pace and direction of our work – and building a foundation of trust, where all parts of you are welcomed without judgment.

I view clients through a biopsychosocial and systems-informed lens, recognizing how our biology, nervous systems, relationships, identities, and broader social contexts shape how we live our lives. When we work together, I make it a point to regularly check in with you to ensure I understand how your experiences – personal, social, and systemic – influence your emotions, behaviors, and patterns of relating to yourself and others.

I bring both professional and lived experience to my work. I know how hard it can be to reach out for support, especially if you’ve been managing on your own for a long time. I believe growth and change happen when we feel safe and supported in relationships, and my role is to walk alongside you as you make sense of what’s been difficult.

I have worked with many clients from LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities, and I am committed to practicing in an identity-affirming way. I never make assumptions about your experiences and take the time to understand what your identity means to you and how it shapes your life. I focus on learning from each person’s unique perspective and experiences, honoring the ways your background, culture, and identity have shaped who you are.

Therapy with me is about more than coping – it’s about exploring the changes you want to make and moving from surviving to thriving. I approach this work with care and empathy, honoring your resilience and the strengths you already carry, and making room for growth in ways that feel authentic. I believe in your capacity to navigate life’s challenges and to build greater trust, connection, and ease in yourself and your relationships.

Education and Background:

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Waterloo. I have completed Phase 1 training in Brainspotting and integrate this work thoughtfully within scope and supervision.

My background includes community mental health and private practice settings, as well as supportive roles with youth and minority communities experiencing homelessness, trauma, addiction, and barriers to accessing basic needs such as housing and healthcare. These experiences continue to inform my relational, trauma-informed, and systems-aware approach to therapy.
