Mariah Story, Registered Psychotherapist

Mariah Story (she/her), RP(Q)

Providing in-person, online and phone sessions (Accepting new clients)

Approach: I approach therapy as a supportive space—to reflect on whatever you're carrying. My training includes: psychodynamic therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT Levels 1 & 2), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Gottman Couples Therapy (Levels 1 & 2). These approaches offer different pathways for understanding patterns, strengthening relationships, and building tools for navigating distress. Alongside talk therapy, I’m also a Certified Music Therapist (MTA). When words feel out of reach, I sometimes draw on creative modalities like music to support expression and emotional processing. While these approaches guide my work, each person’s journey is unique. I aim to create a collaborative, compassionate space where your voice leads the way.

Areas of Focus:

  • Stress, Anxiety, Panic, and Burnout
  • Life Transitions and Change
  • Self-Worth, Body Image, Confidence
  • Disconnection in Relationships
  • Boundary Setting and Assertiveness
  • Complex Family Dynamics Involving Differing Values, Beliefs, or Estrangement
  • Meaning-Making, Spiritual Questioning, and Religious Trauma
  • Living with Chronic Illness, Pain, and Invisible Disabilities

Therapeutic Perspective: As relational beings, we heal and grow best in connection with others. Choosing the right therapist is an important part of that. I take a whole-person perspective in therapy, recognizing the connection between our emotions, bodies, relationships, beliefs, and experiences. I also draw from a systems lens, gently exploring how our relationships and communities shape us—and how we, in turn, shape them.

How I Hold Space: My clients describe me as compassionate, warm, and inclusive. What I cherish most about being a therapist is connecting with others and helping uncover the strengths and resources that exist within them. I value the opportunity to lean into the heavy and uncomfortable parts of life and believe that even in life’s hardest moments, there is potential for meaning and growth.

Together, we can navigate what you are facing, draw on your inner strengths, and work toward building a life that reflects your values and aspirations. It would be an honour to support you.

Education: I hold a Master’s degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy from Martin Luther University College and a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. While formal education is important, I believe meaningful learning also comes from life, relationships, and the wisdom we carry within.
