OFFERING CONFIDENTIAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
Finding the right “Fit”
Why book a consultation?
It is important that you find a counsellor who you feel a connection with. A consultation with KW Mental Health and Wellness can help you get a sense of how our counsellors work with our clients and whether or not you feel they are the right fit for you.
What to expect at a consultation:
A consultation is booked with the counsellor and takes place over the phone. It is a chance to ask questions, learn more about your next steps, explore in more detail how the counsellor may support you, and in general, get to connect. If you are not sure what to say, don’t worry! The therapist will guide you through the consultation.
What are the benefits of choosing telephone counselling?
Comfort: With telephone counselling, you can be in a space that you feel comfortable in, and unlike in-person and video, phone counselling allows folks to practice self-care more easily during the session. For example, if you are someone who likes to move and walk as you talk, or you are someone who likes to use fidgets or hold ice packs to ground yourself, you may benefit.
More Options: When you seek counselling services over the telephone, you are no longer limited to a specific geographical location, such as if you visited our Kitchener-Waterloo office. Your choices on who you would like to work with greatly expand.
Flexibility: It’s much easier to schedule a counselling appointment when you aren’t required to travel anywhere. For folks with busy schedules, this may be a more convenient way of getting mental health therapy.
Lower Cost: The cost of a telephone counselling session is less than you would pay for a traditional meeting in our brick-and-mortar building.
Considerations: Do you have a comfortable space where you could take a private call?
What are the benefits of choosing online counselling?
Convenient Face-to-Face Services: With online video chat, you can receive a face-to-face virtual experience. Video counselling allows you to see your therapist while still maintaining the convenience of not needing to travel or physically go to our office. You are also able to take the video chat in a space that you are most comfortable in.
More Options: When you seek counselling services via online video, you are no longer limited to a specific geographical location, such as if you were at our Kitchener-Waterloo office. Your choices on who you would like to work with greatly expand.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was initially developed in 1987 as a treatment for PTSD.
EMDR works from the perspective that traumatic memories often continue to cause distress long after the trauma is over, due to not being adequately processed. When these memories are triggered they show up as emotions, thoughts, physical sensations, and beliefs that were experienced at the time of the trauma.
EMDR mental health therapy focuses directly on the traumatic memory and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the associated PTSD symptoms.
KW Mental Health and Wellness offers EMDR sessions with therapists trained specifically in the use of this modality. If you are interested and would like to learn more or speak with one of our EMDR therapists about if this is right for you, please contact us.
